Fan confronts Newcastle manager Eddie Howe during Leeds clash

Newcastle and Leeds were in Premier League action

A fan ran onto the pitch and into the Newcastle United technical area during the Premier League clash with Leeds United.

On Saturday afternoon, Leeds were looking to survive the drop by clinching an almighty victory against Newcastle.

Luke Ayling gave Sam Allardyce’s side the lead after just seven minutes but were eventually pegged back by a Callum Wilson penalty.

In the second half, Wilson netted from 12 yards once again as Newcastle went ahead.

Rasmus Kristensen scored to make it 2-2 with 79 minutes on the clock to rescue a vital point for Leeds in their bid for survival.

However, as the match edged towards its conclusion, a bizarre moment happened on the touchline.

A fan managed to walk all the way from the stands to the Newcastle dugout as he approached Magpies boss Eddie Howe.

The fan then muttered some words towards Howe before shoving him on the shoulder.

Security then burst on to the scene to lead the man away, with Howe’s assistant Jason Tindall among those chasing the man away from the technical area.

Fans were quick to react on social media.

One said: “What on earth is that guy doing? He should be banned forever!”

Another tweeted: “What a prat. Another one all big and hard after a few pints.”

A third fan added: “This could have been worse. Where on earth were the stewards?? Man just strolls up to the dugout.”

Someone else wrote: “The strangest thing is that the fourth official is the first to get over to them, not security or any of the Newcastle staff…”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Bodyguard to busy watching the game rather than doing his job!”

Former England player Stuart Pearce said on talkSPORT: “I’m not sure what goes through people’s minds at times. It’s an emotional game, I understand that but, my goodness, please.”
