Trent Alexander-Arnold will be dropped by Xabi Alonso if he breaks strict Real Madrid rule at Club World Cup

The former Liverpool right-back has made two appearances at the Club World Cup since joining Real Madrid.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will reportedly be dropped from Real Madrid’s starting XI by Xabi Alonso if he breaks a little-known rule.

Alexander-Arnold, 26, has so far made two appearances for Real Madrid following his controversial move from Liverpool earlier this summer.

The right-back featured as a substitute in Los Blancos’ 1-1 draw against Al Hilal on June 18 before making his full debut in the 3-1 win over Pachuca on June 22.

Of course, the Liverpudlian will be hoping to nail down a starting spot in Alonso’s side, but he may have to compete with the experienced Dani Carvajal at right-back.

And if he wants to make the position his own, he will have to follow a strict rule, according to a player who has previously worked with Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

Spanish midfielder Aleix Garcia spoke to Tribuna in May and explained how some of his teammates found themselves on the bench after breaking rules under Alonso.

“For me, he is very close and approachable," Garcia said. "He has a special connection with players thanks to the titles he won. But when he has to shout, he shouts. He doesn’t like messing around. He wants training to be work time. He was a player himself and knows how to manage the dressing room.

“Strict on punctuality? We had some important players arrive late to match calls and he left them on the bench. But each club is different. I don’t know if Madrid have the same strict policy. Managing players like Mbappe or Vinicius? I don’t know how Xabi will handle that, I guess it will be hard, but the shouting, the scolding, and the fines will still be there.”

Of course, there’s nothing to suggest that Alexander-Arnold is a player who’s often late to training based on his time at Liverpool.

The England international has already made an effort to impress in his new country and could be heard speaking Spanish when he was unveiled as a Real Madrid player earlier this month.

So, based on this, it would be safe to assume the 26-year-old will be punctual and keen to impress in his new surroundings.
