A surprise club has emerged as one of the favourites to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo this summer.

Rodrygo, 24, has been heavily linked with a move away from the La Liga giants for some time after falling out of favour with then head coach Carlo Ancelotti towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Brazilian, who plays mostly on the right wing, produced 14 goals and 11 assists in 54 appearances as Madrid finished last term without silverware.

Xabi Alonso has since taken up the head coach’s role and employs a system which does not favour the 24-year-old.

Alonso’s 3-4-2-1 formation puts emphasis on attacking wing-backs like new men Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alvaro Carreras.

The Times reported last week that Arsenal are keen on the 24-year-old but would prefer a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer.

This comes after Rodrygo was forced to watch from the bench for most of the Club World Cup campaign, during which Real exited with a 4-0 semi-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

The winger has also been linked with a switch to Premier League champions Liverpool, who remain one of the favourites to sign him as per Betfair.

However, Manchester City have now emerged as another frontrunner to sign Rodrygo.

According to Betfair, City are now favourites at odds of 8/13 to welcome the player this summer.

Meanwhile, on Monday afternoon, journalist Fabrizio Romano issued an update on the situation via X.

Romano wrote: “Manchester City are considering move for Rodrygo after imminent exits. Grealish gone, McAtee and Savinho can leave… and #MCFC see Rodrygo as dream target, Guardiola big fan. Real Madrid will let him leave if player wants - asking around €100m."

Jack Grealish looks set to complete a season-long loan move to Everton, James McAtee is also reportedly close to joining Nottingham Forest for a fee in excess of £20m, while Savinho has been the subject of interest from Spurs. The Athletic reported that "dialogue has taken place between the clubs and a package worth in the region of €50million (£43.3m)" has been proposed by the London outfit.
