Rodrygo reacted angrily to his substitution as he played his first match of the season for Real Madrid.

Rodrygo has been the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer as a move to the Premier League has been rumoured.

Speculation over his future intensified when he was an unused substitute in Real's La Liga opener against Osasuna.

But having taken drastic action, the Brazilian played from the start in his side's game against Oviedo on Sunday.

He formed an attacking trio of Franco Mastantuono, who joined this summer, and Kylian Mbappe, who opened the scoring.

Mbappe broke the deadlock in the 34th minute before Rodrygo was replaced just after the hour mark.

And Xabi Alonso's decision to take him off didn't go down well with the star player.

Cameras cut to Rodrygo following his substitution and he cut a frustrated figure, slamming his bib on the ground as he appeared to speak out about his change.

His reaction fuels rumours he could leave the club ahead of next month's transfer deadline as Liverpool and Manchester City circle.

Liverpool have signed the likes of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike this summer but have sanctioned the sales of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, not to mention the passing of Diogo Jota.

They remain in the market for further attacking reinforcements and could turn their attention to Rodrygo if they fail to strike a deal with Newcastle United for Alexander Isak.

Man City are also keepings tabs on the 24-year-old's situation as Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his attack for the season.

What did Xabi Alonso say about Rodrygo after Real Madrid's victory over Oviedo?

Real beat Oviedo 3-0 as Mbappe added another after opening the scoring. Vinicius Jr., who started the game on the bench, scored his side's third in stoppage time.

Rodrygo recorded just over 60 minutes of action in his first appearance of the season.

On his performance, Alonso said: "Rodrygo played a good game. I liked him and I’m happy.

"Rodrygo is one of us, we need all the players this season."

On the substitutions he made, the Los Blancos gaffer added: "The substitutions? All the players will be important, we have many games to play."
