Jose Mourinho is expected to be named the new Real Madrid manager on Wednesday, but it might be a little while before he is unveiled to supporters.
Los Blancos are officially without a head coach after Alvaro Arbeloa left his role on Tuesday, just five months after he had replaced former boss Xabi Alonso.
Florentino Perez promised he would bring Mourinho back to Madrid if he won the club's presidential election, which was confirmed on Sunday when he defeated rival Enrique Riquelme with 65 per cent of the vote.
Benfica have already confirmed they have received contact from Real Madrid confirming their intention to pay Mourinho's €15 million release clause. The Portuguese head coach has already agreed to his return, with an official announcement expected in midweek.

Taking to social media, notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano confirmed an agreement was in place for Mourinho's return, but warned he won't undergo any media duties until next month.
"Initial meeting at Real Madrid took place last night with management team and José Mourinho involved," he wrote on X. "Long meeting to discuss players/strategies. Mourinho, expected to be presented to the press and fans in July — and not now."
Mourinho's agent, Jorge Mendes, was spotted meeting with Real Madrid director general José Ángel Sánchez and chief scout Juni Calafat at a hotel in the centre of the city on Tuesday evening.
The 63-year-old was previously in charge of the La Liga giants between 2010 and 2013, where he did battle with Pep Guardiola at Barcelona. Mourinho won one league title, the Copa del Rey and reached three Champions League semifinals during that spell. He has since returned to Chelsea for a second spell and managed Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma, Fenerbahce and Benfica.
Bringing back Mourinho was a key pillar of Perez's successful election campaign, while he also pushed to sign defensive duo Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries. Los Blancos have also made an offer of €150 million to sign Julian Alvarez from fierce rivals Atlético Madrid, which was rejected.
It is understood that Mourinho will take on a more authoritative role at the Bernabéu compared to the previous head coach, Arbeloa, which will give him a key say in transfer dealings, among other key areas. It is claimed he presented a list of 10 demands to club president Perez during initial talks between the pair.
