Arda Guler's transfer announcement to Real Madrid overtakes Lionel Messi as second most liked on Twitter

Arda Guler's transfer announcement to Real Madrid overtakes Lionel Messi as second most liked on Twitter

Guler has been tipped for a bright future at the Bernabeu.

Arda Guller has surpassed Lionel Messi on the list of most liked transfer announcements of all time after signing for Real Madrid.

Last Thursday, Madrid announced the signing of Guler in a statement which read: “Real Madrid C. F. and Fenerbahçe SK have agreed the transfer of Arda Güler, who signs a deal with our club for the next six seasons.

During his official unveiling, the 18-year-old could be seen wiping away his mother's tears, who could barely contain her pride.

The creative midfielder, dubbed the 'Turkish Messi', entered the spotlight after a series of impressive performances for Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce, with his left-footed style of play drawing similarities with the seven time Ballon d'Or winner.

Guler scored six goals across 35 appearances for Fenerbahce last season, catching the eye of Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle before eventually sealing a move to the Bernabeu.

During his presentation in front of the media, the Turkish youngster said: “I want to become a Real Madrid legend.”

The teenager becomes Carlo Ancelotti's second big summer signing following the arrival of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund last month.

Meanwhile, fans are clearly delighted about his decision, with his transfer announcement amassing over 925,000 likes on Twitter.

That figure takes him above Messi's transfer announcement to Paris-Saint Germain, which was liked by 810,000 people.

However, Guler still has some way to go before matching Manchester United's announcement for Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford in 2021, which was recorded 1.8 million likes.

Guler seems to have settled in to life at Madrid pretty quickly after a video went viral of the youngster's first training session where he looked to be very comfortable on the ball.
