Hansi Flick introduces strict new rule for entire Barcelona squad just days after Marcus Rashford arrival

Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona this week on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford may be in for a culture shock when he settles in at Barcelona, having completed his loan move from Manchester United.

Rashford, 27, sealed his season-long loan to Barcelona this week, calling it a 'dream' transfer and wishing United well back in the Premier League. After falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim and being frozen out at United, Rashford spent time on loan last season at Aston Villa and he will now spend the 2025/26 campaign at the Nou Camp under the management of Hansi Flick.

Barcelona are looking to defend their La Liga title, with Flick sealing the championship in his first season in charge. According to reports, he imposed a number of strict rules on his new squad upon his arrival to instil new standards in the dressing room.

According to AS, Flick introduced 10 rules when he became Barca manager which meant players had to arrive 90 minutes before training began each day, undergo daily weight checks, and every player must eat in the squad canteen without exception. Each matchday involves a warm-up session in the morning, before players then all met up at the team hotel prior to departure for a game. After games, Flick banned late-night return flights and instead introduced hotel stays for evening games.

He also insisted on 'long and intense workouts' of 90 minutes each, meaning players spend around five hours per day at the training ground and he scaled back days off between games so as not to miss out on valuable training time. Flick is said to have banned fines as a motivational tool and has insisted on a professional relationship with his players rather than one of friendship.

Now, it is reported that Flick has added an 11th rule to his approach in time for Rashford's arrival in Catalonia. Sport say that Flick will take a harsher view on players partying in their free time after youngster Lamine Yamal recently generated criticism for his 18th birthday party. It is reported that Flick will encourage his players to take more discretion in their social activities and place more focus on football in order to retain their La Liga title.

Flick will minimise Christmas parties and keep a closer eye on commercial activities that could overlap into disrupting the first team having felt players were too distracted with marketing activities.

Rashford had to apologise to former United boss Erik Ten Hag in 2023 after celebrating his birthday hours after a 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City, with his manager calling the party 'unacceptable', while it was reported by the Athletic that Rashford partied in Belfast ahead of an FA Cup tie with Newport in 2024 before missing training the following day. Ten Hag said Rashford was ill at the time and the forward has been given a somewhat unfair reputation for such incidents.
