Why Arsenal Are Forced To Wear Their Away Kit Tonight

Despite being at home.

Even though Arsenal are hosting Basel in the Champions League tonight, the Gunners will be forced to wear their away kit.

Arsene Wenger's men won't be sporting the traditional red and white strip, instead they'll be in the yellow and grey colours in front of their own fans.

This unusual situation comes as a result of Basel's home shirt featuring a mix of red, blue and black. But what about their away kit I hear you ask.

Well, the Swiss outfit's all white away strip is also deemed unacceptable by UEFA due to the white sleeves on Arsenal's home shirt, and they don't have a third strip. Could have been handy for tonight.

(UEFA ruling means Arsenal must wear their yellow away kit at the Emirates tonight)

It's not the first time this was occurred. Per UEFA ruling, Arsenal had to wear their change strip in the 1998/99 campaign against Lens at Highbury because of a clash. As well as their game against Benfica in 1991, pre-Champions League.

Meanwhile, onto more pressing matters. Arsenal will be looking to add to their solitary point following their 1-1 draw in France against Paris Saint-Germain. Basel have just the one point on the board, too, after they disappointingly drew at home to European minnows Ludogorets.

The second round of group stage fixtures will also see former Basel old boy Granit Xhaka line-up opposite against older brother Taulant.
