Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has had his say on fans booing the national anthem during Saturday's FA Cup final.

Ahead the showpiece event at Wembley, Liverpool fans loudly booed 'God Save The Queen', which has been part of the build-up to the match since 1927.

The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William is president of the Football Association and was also booed as he shook hands with players prior to kick-off.

Reds supporters inside the stadium have been slammed in recent days and Klopp was asked about the incident ahead of Tuesday's clash with Southampton.

Per Neil Jones of Goal, Klopp said: "Of course I have thoughts, but in this situation the best question is 'why does this happen?' The people do not do it for no reason. Maybe we should ask this question?"

Liverpool would go on to beat Chelsea 6-5 on penalties after a gripping 120 minutes of action in regulation time.

Mason Mount saw his penalty saved by Alisson which allowed cult hero Kostas Tsimikas to step up and seal an eighth FA Cup triumph.

The drama surrounding fans booing the national anthem, as well as a rendition of 'Abide By Me', continues to rage on in the mainstream media.

An unexpected moment at today's #FACupFinal, where Liverpool fans booed Prince William and National Anthem. My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong, Twitter) is that it's still felt there was an establishment cover-up over the Hillsborough disaster and getting justice for it. pic.twitter.com/uFLAJEJp30

Liverpool have booed the national anthem for a number of years and it links back to the Conservative government's management of the city in the 1980s.

The government's failings following the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, which saw 97 Liverpool fans tragically die, also adds further vitriol.

UFC star Paddy Pimblett is a Liverpool fan and went for former Premier League midfielder Curtis Woodhouse, who called the boos 'embarrassing' on social media.

Pimblett, who previously banned 'The Sun' from asking a question at his pre-fight press conference, slammed Woodhouse for not understanding why fans boo.

The embarrassing thing is u know exactly why it gets done your just coming on here to tweet about it for a reaction like a 6 year old kid, badly need to grow up u yanno fella 🤦🏼‍♂️ https://t.co/QteyWoj807

He tweeted: "The embarrassing thing is you know exactly why it gets done you are just coming on here to tweet about it for a reaction like a six year old kid, badly need to grow up you, you know fella."

The 27-year-old later added: "Why are you even questioning why we boo it then? If you understood you wouldn't even be asking that question."
