Football presenter Jake Humphrey reveals he shared a bed with Holly Willoughby for six months but insists nothing happened

Humphrey claimed his wife of 16 years was fine with it

Football presenter Jake Humphrey has admitted to sharing a bed with This Morning host Holly Willoughby when the two worked together in the early 2000s, but insists their relationship was strictly platonic.

In an interview with The Mirror back in 2012, Humphrey, who is regularly seen on BT Sport and co-hosts The High Performance Podcast with Damian Hughes, revealed he and Willoughby slept in the same bed for six months while filming CBBC’s coverage of Fame Academy in 2003.

At the time, Humphrey was in a relationship with his soon-to-be wife, Harriet, who he married in 2007, and he claims she was fine with the rather unusual sleeping arrangement.

"Holly was living in Brighton and never used to stay down there so she stayed at my flat in London while we were working on the show,” Humphrey said.

“Eventually, it got to the point where we couldn’t be bothered to get the blow-up bed out so for about six months we slept in the same bed.

"Holly’s a good mate but I look back on my time with her and wonder what might have been but I was going out with Harriet at the time and she lived in Leeds.

"She had met Holly so she knew what she looked like and she was fine with it."

Both Humphrey and Willoughby have gone on to have successful careers in broadcasting.

The former is now a familiar face in Premier League and Champions League coverage, while the latter, who has co-hosted This Morning since 2009, is widely considered a national treasure for her work on the long-running ITV daytime how, as well as presenting stints on Dancing on Ice, I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, and regular appearances on Celebrity Juice.

Recently, however, Willoughby has been at the centre of a reported feud with collaborator of 14 years, Phillip Schofield, who stepped down from his role as This Morning co-host last week.

"It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour. The sofa won’t feel the same without him,” Willoughby said in a statement.
