Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has launched a shocking attack on former teammate Harry Maguire, making a huge claim about the Red Devils captain.

Rojo is currently captaining Boca Juniors in his native Argentina after a seven-year spell with United, where he made 122 appearances.

His game-time was drastically reduced as time went on at Old Trafford and in the 2019/20 campaign, he started just once in the Premier League.

Maguire came in as first-choice after a club-record £80 million switch from Leicester and ended up becoming the club's captain in the middle of the campaign following Ashley Young's departure to Inter Milan.

But Rojo was not happy with his lack of game-time at the expense of Maguire, who was eventually dislodged by Rojo's compatriot Lisandro Martinez at United after signing from Ajax last summer.

He accused Maguire of "making mistakes every week" and claims Solskjaer told him the England defender had to be selected because of the massive fee United forked out for him.

In an extraordinary interview with TyC Sports, Rojo said: "In 2019 I was playing in the Europa League, but I was really angry with the Manchester coach [Solskjaer] because he was putting Maguire [in the team] instead of me, who thank god finally they took him out from the starting line-up for Licha [Lisandro] Martinez.

"One day I went to Solskjaer’s office to tell him to let me leave for the other club or put [me] in the starting line-up, but he told me that Maguire had to play because of the money they paid for him.

"He [Maguire] was making huge mistakes already and I told Solskjaer: 'Son of a b***h let me play because this guy is making huge mistakes every week' [laughs]."

Maguire has largely found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season and made a huge error in United's Europa League exit to Sevilla.

He was suspended for the FA Cup semi-final win over Brighton but missed the 2-2 draw with Spurs through injury.

Hothead Rojo won three trophies at United, lifting the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League.
