Graeme Souness calls out Gary Neville over his off-air Liverpool comments in heated spat, it's box-office entertainment

Graeme Souness calls out Gary Neville over his off-air Liverpool comments in heated spat, it's box-office entertainment

Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness claimed that Gary Neville said off-air that he thought "Liverpool played badly" against Manchester United.

Graeme Souness called out fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville over his off-air comments during their heated war of words after Liverpool’s 7-0 demolition of Manchester United.

The Reds swept away United in stunning fashion at Anfield on Sunday, with Cody Gakpo’s superb strike opening the scoring for Liverpool before half-time.

Gakpo added his second of the match five minutes after the break, with Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah both scoring second-half braces.

Roberto Firmino, who is set to leave Anfield in the summer, sealed Liverpool’s resounding win by grabbing his side’s seventh against United in the 88th minute.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher brutally trolled Neville, who was in utter dismay at the result, during the Reds’ steamrolling of Premier League rivals United.

United legend Roy Keane, who was also on punditry for Sky Sports, ruthlessly slammed the Red Devils after their complete collapse against Liverpool.

Following Liverpool’s remarkable victory at Anfield, Souness and Neville clashed in a heated back-and-forth argument during their post-match analysis for Sky Sports.

Souness suggested that Neville said that he “thought Liverpool played badly today,” which the United legend staunchly denied.

Neville instead claimed that he thought United “were the better team” in the first half and the second half was more about the Red Devils’ “capitulation.”

Check out the full exchange between Neville and Souness below, as well as the footage of their heated spat in the studio.

Souness: “Can I just pull it back, Gary put it on me at the start of the show, if I would repeat on the air that I think Liverpool will win well today, comfortably. Gary said off the air that he thought Liverpool played badly today.”

Neville: “I didn’t say that.”

Souness: “What did you say?”

Neville: “I said first half I think Manchester United were the better team. In the second half, it was just about Manchester United’s capitulation.”

Souness: “So that would be nothing to do with Liverpool playing well?”

Carragher: “You said you didn’t think Liverpool played well.”

Neville “I don’t think Jurgen Klopp, he’ll analyse that game tomorrow and the momentum he’ll take from that, he won’t think, ‘Oh, we’re back.’ He won’t fall into that trap. They won’t get carried away off the back of that, Liverpool, at all.”

Souness: “We’re not talking about getting carried away, we’re talking about them playing well today.”

Neville: “Look at you gloating like little children.”

Souness: “No, because you just can’t come out with a daft remark saying Liverpool didn’t play well today.”

Neville: “My point is I’ve seen Liverpool play well for five or six years and they’ve put in some of the best performances I’ve ever seen. They’re still not back anywhere near that.”

Carragher: “So did Liverpool play well today?”

Neville: “They played alright in the second half, they won the game no problem. I’ve said congratulations, well done. Congratulations. My point is when you get beat 7-0, it becomes about how bad the other team are. Manchester United in that second half -- Luke Shaw, Varane, Martinez, Dalot, that midfield, they were an absolute shambles.”
