Bruno Fernandes linked with stunning exit and awkward reunion as three European giants linked

Bruno Fernandes has been linked with a blockbuster move away from Manchester United in a move that nobody would have seen coming.

There's no exaggerating how important Fernandes is to Manchester United, with the midfielder absolutely key to all of the club's success in recent years.

Last season, the United captain broke the Premier League assist record (21) and scored nine times, taking his total for the club to 107 goals in 327 appearances.

Despite this, the Portugal international's future remains uncertain as he enter into the final year of his current contract, with negotiations over a new deal yet progress.

The thought of losing Fernandes on a free transfer next summer seems unpalatable both for United fans and for the club hierarchy, leading to rumours that he could be sold in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

According to BBC Sport, Juventus, AC Milan and Galatasaray are all interested in signing Fernandes this summer, and could test United's resolve before the window closes.

In the past, Fernandes has been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, with reports suggesting that Al Hilal were ready to pay a fee of about £100million and wages of up to £700,000 a week to secure his signature.

However, a move within Europe seems much more likely following his stunning 2025/26 season, and it can be done for far less thanks to a £57m release clause available to overseas clubs.

Of course, of the three clubs a move to AC Milan would no doubt be the most interesting as it would see Fernandes reunited with former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.

Amorim, who managed United from November 2024 to January 2026, took over as AC Milan boss back in June, signing a multi-year deal with the club.

But, in good news for United fans, the report adds that it is thought Fernandes' preference is to stay at United, potentially for the remainder of his career.

Manchester United submit 'formal enquiry' for potential Fernandes replacement

If United were to cash in on Fernandes ahead of his contract expiring next year, then it is certain that they would have to enter the market and sign an immediate replacement.

And, according to Football FanCast, they may have already taken the first steps to do so as United have reportedly submitted a formal enquiry to find out the conditions of a deal for AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara.

The Senegalese star has scored five goals and provided 11 assists in 71 matches since signing for Monaco from fellow French side Metz and also excels defensively, averaging 2.7 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per 90.

It therefore comes as no surprise that United are interested in the 22-year-old, and it appears that they are not the only Premier League club as Crystal Palace recently had a £35 million bid rejected by Monaco.

Instead, it is believed that the French club value Camara at around £65m.
