Liverpool are reportedly targeting Brighton and Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister

Fans have been mocking Gary Neville on social media after the former Manchester United defender questioned Liverpool’s apparent interest in Alexis Mac Allister.

Brighton and Hove Albion star Mac Allister has had a stellar season so far. After helping Argentina win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he has returned to star in Brighton’s late charge for European football.

On Thursday night, the 24-year-old scored a last-gasp penalty to secure a vital 1-0 win for the Seagulls over United.

Over the last few weeks, it has been widely reported that Liverpool are looking to secure Mac Allister’s signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp will be looking to refresh his midfield options as the likes of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner are all set to depart the Anfield club at the end of the season.

Former England defender Neville took to Twitter and questioned their move for the Argentina international.

He wrote: “Liverpool with no Bellingham but get Mac Allister? That Enough to get back in CL places? £80m!!”

Neville’s fellow Sky Sports pundit and ex-Liverpool player Jamie Carragher replied with: “Obsessed!!!!”

Whilst some fans mocked Neville and United’s past transfer dealings.

One said: “You spent £80m on Antony you weapon..”

Another tweeted: “Maguire was £80mill.”

A third fan added: “A bargain compared to Antony.”

Someone else wrote: “80 million on Maguire, wasn't it? 100 million on Antony how much on Sancho?”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Anthony was £85m, so was Maguire. Mac is a World Cup winner.!”

“I try to transmit that to my teammates, the young players, the South American players that we've got.

“It's a fantastic team, like a family. Every time I get to the pitch I really enjoy it.”
