Luis Suarez eventually got on the score sheet as Barcelona trounced Espanyol on Saturday night, but the Uruguayan 'could' have scored earlier if it wasn't for Gerard Pique.

Barcelona maintained their 100% start in the La Liga after recording a 5-0 victory against their neighbours. Lionel Messi netted a hat-trick with Pique and Suarez completing the rout.

Though Suarez had to wait for his goal with the Spanish defender getting on the score sheet before him after heading home from a corner. The ex-Liverpool striker attempted an audacious over-head kick with Pique pipping him to the ball with his head. Watch Suarez slap Pique in the video below:

After missing out on a potential worldie, Suarez proceeded to slap Pique around the head not just once but twice.

The 30-year-old ultimately got his goal in his first La Liga appearance of the season after combining brilliantly with the clubs £97 million man, Ousmane Dembele.

But he's still finding his form as he returns to full fitness: "You're out for 10 days without doing very much, you know you lose a little bit of [muscle] tone," Suarez told reporters via Goal.

"That's why I played for the national team. It was important to get my fitness back.

"This is a game where I knew I would have to find my sharpness and my rhythm.

"We have an advantage over our rivals but it's early. We like winning like this," he added.

Barcelona remain at the top of the La Liga two points ahead of nearest rivals Sevilla, with focus now turning to the Champions League.

The Catalans begin their 2017/18 European campaign with a tasty fixture against the side that dumped them out last year in Juventus.
