Germany Are Proof It's Still Coming Home Just In Four Years

Germany Are Proof It's Still Coming Home Just In Four Years

Oh you all thought we meant that football was coming home after this World Cup? No we knew that England would lost to Croatia.

So apparently some of you got the wrong message and thought that it was coming home this year. You see here at SPORTbible we always knew that it wouldn't come home till Qatar 2022 and the World Cup in four years.

There was a time, about a month ago, that barely anyone in England had any expectations of winning the World Cup. After years of hope and expectation above where the Three Lions actually finished it was time to just pray we got out of the group.

As the tournament went on fans started to enjoy themselves more and more. Three Lions and Three Lions 98 once again became staple listening to our summer, especially as the sun shone. Eventually the enjoyment boiled over into enthusiasm and "It's Coming Home" grew as a motto and a meme.

I have to tell you all this dear reader because it seems that some outside of England have taken certain offence to 'It's Coming Home' and haven't realised it started out as irony and we just sort of went with it as Gareth's brave men somehow reached the semis, even if they claimed they did realise.

Anyway it all came crashing down against Croatia on Wednesday night with the 2-1 extra time loss, cruel cruel world. But have no fear because there's proof that it's coming home from Qatar.

As pointed out by many on social media in 2010 Germany reached the semi-final of the World Cup before being knocked out by Spain. In that tournament Thomas Muller won the Golden Boot.

Four years later Germany were world champions.

This summer England have reached the semi-finals and been knocked out by Croatia and there's every chance that Harry Kane, with his six goals so far, will be the Golden Boot winner.

Should England beat Belgium on Saturday and Croatia beat France on Sunday, meaning like Germany in 2010 England would have finished third and lost to the winners, then you'll be running out to put your life savings on England winning the World Cup in four years time.

In case you aren't convinced can I interest you in football actually coming home in 2020?

The Euros in two years is set to take place all around Europe as UEFA try to bankrupt fans and create little to no atmosphere of a fanbase being based in an area for a good amount of time.

The semi-finals and final will be held at Wembley and as we all know the original meaning of it's coming home is about England hosting the Euros in 1996.

One way or another it's definitely coming home, even if every other country hates to admit it!
