Fred scored a sublime chip to help put Manchester United in firm control of their opening pre-season friendly against Liverpool.

The two Premier League rivals kicked off their preparations for the new season at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday.

United manager Erik ten Hag opted to play a team close to full strength, while Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp started a number of youngsters including new signing Fabio Carvalho.

But it was Liverpool that started the better of the two teams, with United goalkeeper David De Gea forced into an early save by Luis Diaz.

However, it would be the Red Devils that would take the lead shortly afterwards – Jadon Sancho putting his side ahead with an excellent first-time finish after Liverpool youngster Isaac Mabaya failed to deal with a cross from Bruno Fernandes.

Liverpool missed a series of chances to level the match, with Carvalho and Diaz both hitting the post in quick succession after Luke Chambers was denied.

And Liverpool were made to pay for their wastefulness later in the half. The Reds again failed to deal with a ball inside their own area, allowing Fred to direct a delicate chip over the despairing dive of Alisson.

Minutes later, it was 3-0 - Anthony Martial racing through to score as United threatened to run riot before half-time to the delight of their fans on social media.

"Boys, I don't mean to get carried away, but we're gonna win the f*****g league," wrote one supporter on Twitter.

"I'm really impressed by what I've seen," added another.

A third joked: "We are finally winning a trophy", referencing the Bangkok Century Cup that the two teams are competing for.
