Police have urged witnesses to come forward.

Former Bristol City forward Osagi Bascome has died at the age of 23 after being stabbed outside a restaurant in Bermuda.

Bascome, who also played academy football for Aston Villa, Valencia and Levante, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation on St David’s Island.

A police spokesperson in Bermuda said: “A police investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 23-year-old male, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an apparent stabbing incident.

“Officers were at King Edward Memorial Hospital in connection with another matter, when they were alerted to the victim who was brought into the Emergency Department in a non-responsive state, with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.

“The victim was transported to hospital via private vehicle. Details are at this time limited.

"A scene has now been established in the area of Fun Zone, Wallers Point Road, St. Georges."

Detective chief inspector Peter Stableford, speaking outside the ‘Fun Zone’ where the attack is alleged to have occurred, urged witnesses to come forward.

"We need to hear from anyone who was at the party but right now persons who were there are not talking to us," Stableford said.

"We know that people saw what happened and we would urge them to do the right thing by Osagi and tell us."

Bascome signed for Bristol City in 2017 after impressing during a trial the previous year.

He featured for the U23 side that season but would later leave the club, joining Spanish side Massanass before moving to National League North club Darlington.

Bascome was capped 18 times by Bermuda, scoring one goal, and often played alongside current Bristol City striker Nahki Wells.

Bermuda’s minister for national security, Renee Ming, offered her condolences to Bascome’s family and echoed Stableford’s call for witnesses to come forward.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the family of this young man, who is this afternoon coming to terms with this tragedy,” said Ming.

“While information is still being gathered and the investigation begins, I appeal to members of the public, who may have seen or heard what happened, to please share that information with police.

“If you know something, say something.”
