Wrexham tipped to sign £300,000-a-week superstar in move that would stun the Championship

Wrexham have been tipped to make a stunning signing after securing an unprecedented third promotion on Saturday.

The Red Dragons spent 15 seasons in Non League before winning the title in 2023 and following it up with another promotion to League One.

Phil Parkinson's side, backed by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since 2021, proceeded to create history by securing Championship football next season following a 3-0 win at home to Charlton at the SToK Racecourse.

The incredible achievement means Wrexham are one year ahead of their plan, though they will have to strengthen in order to compete in the second tier.

A host of high-profile names have been linked with the Welsh outfit, with rumours about Jamie Vardy continuing to swirl after he confirmed he will be leaving Leicester City after 13 seasons.

But former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has suggested another potential signing for Wrexham - though it would almost definitely break their wage structure.

The World Cup winner proposed the idea of going after Raheem Sterling, who is currently on loan at Arsenal from Chelsea and has a year remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge.

Petit said a move would be "interesting to see" but acknowledged the financial difficulties of pulling off such a deal given Sterling earns upwards of £300,000-a-week.

"Chelsea would be happy to let Raheem Sterling go with only a year left on his contract, the issue for Wrexham would be how much the wages are," Petit, speaking via BesteOnlineCasinoNederland, said.

He is probably on over £300,000 a week and Wrexham would have to offer him a great package to convince him to sign. It would be interesting to see, but Ryan Reynolds would have to get the chequebook out.

"When it comes to Sterling in the Premier League, we all know he isn’t the same player he once was."

It is reported that Jay Rodriguez, capped once by England and set to receive two medals this season after signing from Burnley, Wrexham's highest-paid player on £15,000-a-week.

As per Capology, promoted Leeds United have the two highest-paid players in the second tier in Patrick Bamford and Junior Firpo, who have been earning £70,000-a-week and £60,000-a-week respectively.

Wrexham's strict transfer revealed ahead of Championship season

Though they will be linked with plenty of blockbuster deals like Sterling, Wrexham are taking care in the transfer market and according to ESPN, will operate a 'no superstars and no egos' policy when it comes to potential incomings.

Parkinson has already admitted that "a lot of tough decisions will be made this summer" and said the club have "always got our eye on players who are free transfers and are going to be available".
