Shortly after the match, a video of the former Liverpool star's highlights went viral on social media.
The video backed up Madrid fans' claims that Alexander-Arnold had a tough debut as he played a few misplaced passes and lost possession on numerous occasions.
Media outlets in Spain were also quick to react to the full-back's debut, MARCA stated: "Trying to get more into the game. He went too far in a switch to find Vinicius. He was weak in a duel, and the move ended with Al Hilal scoring offside.
"I don't know how you saw it on TV, but Trent getting out of the way during the Al Hilal counterattack ... it left me speechless."

Speaking after the match, Alexander-Arnold reflected: "It's a very proud moment for me. It's a moment that most, if not all players, dream of at some point in their life.
"But it was very challenging to play in that heat and very different from England."
He continued: "It's the first time I've moved clubs. I didn't know what to expect and it's a big change but I'm loving every single minute of it.
