It has been almost two years in the making but on Saturday afternoon, highly-rated defender Luka Vuskovic made his Tottenham debut in their pre-season clash against Reading – and it was a quite remarkable outing.
Vuskovic, 18, joined up with the North London side earlier this month after his transfer from Hajduk Split was agreed in 2023.
After impressing on loan at Belgian side Westerlo last season, Tottenham fans were eagerly anticipating his first appearance under Thomas Frank – especially after the Croatian made his international debut in a World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic last month.
And he certainly didn't disappoint. In fact, the teenage centre-back was introduced as a half-time substitute against League One side Reading and soon, the defender notched his first assist, flicking on a corner for Will Lankshear to open the scoring.

Four minutes later, Vuskovic then netted his first goal for the club, picking out the bottom corner with a superb finish following some great work from fellow debutant Mohammed Kudus.
As you can imagine, fans reacted in their droves after Vuskovic notched a goal and an assist on his debut.
One said: "Luka Vušković, ARE YOU SERIOUS??? It took the 18 year-old defender 8 MINUTES to notch his first goal AND assist for Tottenham in his debut with the English giants. Incredible. Vušković is doing things we’ve never seen before."

A second wrote: "I don’t want to make grand statements eight minutes into his unofficial debut against League One Reading, but Luka Vuskovic is officially the best centre back in football history."
A third commented: "Obviously no need to overreact as it’s just a pre season game but Luka Vuskovic is the best player to ever grace a pitch," and a fourth said: "The next big thing, Luka Vušković."
A fifth added: "Luka Vuskovic moving like an absolute Rolls-Royce? Imagine my surprise. The masses may not have been aware of the level of Vuskovic’s talent but I know the majority of Spurs fans were aware. A finish like that on his weaker left foot."
Speaking after the full-time whistle, Vuskovic opened up on his dream debut. “Everything is perfect," he said, as per SpursOTM. "The club is behind me. The players, the staff, the coach, everyone is helping me a lot and I’m really happy.”
