Jose Mourinho revealed which of his former players failed to fulfil his potential.

The Portuguese manager endured an unsuccessful spell in charge of Tottenham between 2019 and 2021.

And Mourinho has now risked engulfing the wrath of the Tottenham faithful by suggesting one of their star players is playing beneath his level.

One of the few players able to thrive during Mourinho's tenure in north London was Son Heung-min, who formed a ruthless attacking partnership with Harry Kane.

And Mourinho claimed that the South Korean star could play at an even higher level.

“I don’t look at Son as a Korean player. I look at Son as one of the best players in the world,” Mourinho, who has been out of work since getting sacked by Roma in January, told EA Sports FC.

“Maybe Tottenham supporters aren’t going to be happy with what I’m going to say, it’s not disrespectful. He could win titles, he could play for the best teams.

“He could be playing in England for Man City, for Liverpool, for Chelsea. It could be abroad, playing for one of the top teams.

“He has that modern mobility of the attacking players. He can play through the middle, from the sides, wide to coming inside.”

Son has netted some 162 goals, the fifth most in the club’s history, and made 83 assists in his 405 appearances since his debut nine years ago.

However, the 31-year-old has never claimed any club silverware, having come closest in the 2019 Champions League and 2021 League Cup.

It is unclear where his future lies, however, with Son’s contract expiring next summer.

On Saturday, Tottenham take on Burnley in a game that could see Vincent Komany’s men relegated and see Spurs claim a European place for next season.
