Never mind the Premier League, the Polish title race is the most ridiculous in the world

There is a title race in the Premier League between Manchester City and Arsenal but it does not compare to the battle in the Ekstraklasa.

Manchester City and Arsenal are set to battle it out for the Premier League title across the final five games of the campaign, and while it is set to be exciting, it is nowhere near as exhilarating as the race in Poland’s top flight.

In Germany the title has already been confirmed, as Bayern Munich were crowned champions. Inter Milan could essentially lift their Serie A trophy this weekend, while PSV are edging ever closer to the Eredivisie.

However, the Turkish Super Lig and the Scottish Premiership are set to go down to the wire along with the Ekstraklasa in Poland.

Lech Poznan are currently top of the table after their 29 fixtures, with only five games remaining in their campaign, as they look to retain their Ekstraklasa title.

Gornik Zabrze are joint first with Lech Poznan with 49 points in the division but have played a game more than their title rivals, so may be considered to be on the back foot at this point with only four games left to play.

Football fans across the world who pay attention to the biggest leagues in the world will believe that as a title race enters the final five games of the season, there are usually two or three sides battling it out to lift the trophy, but not in Poland.

Seventh-placed GKS Katowice are well in the fight for the Ekstraklasa title, as they are currently only six points behind Lech Poznan with five games of their season left to play.

Jagiellonia Bialystok lost their title to Lech Poznan last season and so will be desperate to regain the trophy, but after their defeat to Gornik Zabrze on Friday night they have dashed their hopes of doing so as they now sit three points off first, having played a game more.

While there will be a keen interest in the title race, it should be noted the relegation battle is just as exciting, as three teams will be relegated from the top flight, but those clubs currently in the drop zone all have a chance of ensuring they do not become part of I liga.

Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza are currently rooted to the bottom of the table with 28 points, currently eight points away from safety with four games left to play, a tough ask but not impossible.

Widzew Lodz and Arka Gdynia occupy the other two spots in the relegation places at present, but they are within a win of escaping this fate, both with five games remaining.

Arka Gdynia, who are sat in 16th, are only five points off eighth place, Motor Lublin, who have accumulated a tally of 39 points so far this season.

So, there is a real battle between 10 teams for the final two relegation places as we edge towards the completion of the campaign.
