Just days after Anthony Gordon was ruled out of this month's Carabao Cup final, it has emerged that another key player will miss Newcastle's clash against Liverpool on March 16.

Gordon will serve a three-game ban for violent conduct after he was shown a straight red card in their dramatic FA Cup fifth round clash against Brighton.

With seven minutes of normal time remaining, the Magpies were reduced to 10 men after the winger lashed out at defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

It was initially reported that Newcastle would consider lodging an appeal against the red card for Gordon, who has has notched nine goals and six assists for Eddie Howe's side this season.

But on Wednesday morning, it emerged that they decided against an appeal, meaning the England international will not feature in upcoming games against West Ham, Brentford and Liverpool.

Now, another first-team player has been ruled out of this month's Carabao Cup final.

Lewis Hall, who missed that game against Brighton, picked up an ankle injury in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last week, sparking concerns about his availability for the Wembley showpiece event.

Speaking after the Brighton game, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe delivered a far-from-promising update on the left-back's situation.

"We’re waiting to see," he said. "It is an ankle problem that Lewis Hall picked up after the Liverpool game and had some pain towards the end of the game. He didn’t really recover well, he has a bit of swelling there."

Howe added: “So he had a scan and now he has been to see a specialist. We are awaiting further news.”

A few days later and Hall has been ruled out of the final.

Newcastle released a statement on Wednesday morning to confirm that the 20-year-old defender will miss the rest of the 2024/25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot.

"Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team," the club added. 'Wishing you all the very best for your surgery and recovery, Lewis."

Kieran Trippier, Tino Livramento or Kieran Trippier will likely cover in his absence as they try and stifle the in-form Mohamed Salah.
