You will never guess how many FPL managers triple captained Chris Wood before his hat-trick

You will never guess how many FPL managers triple captained Chris Wood before his hat-trick

Stunning.

A stunning number of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers predicted Chris Wood would produce a Man of the Match performance against Newcastle.

Wood scored an incredible hat-trick as Forest came from behind to beat his former club Newcastle 3-1 at St James' Park on Boxing Day.

Alexander Isak had put the home side ahead from the penalty spot midway through the first half.

But just before half-time, Anthony Elanga set up Wood to finish from close range.

After the break, Elanga set up Wood for a second time - the New Zealand international beating Dan Burn before dinking a brilliant finish past Martin Dubravka.

He then completed his hat-trick on the hour mark to secure a first win for new Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

For his Man of the Match performance, Wood was awarded 14 points on FPL and is likely to receive more once the match bonuses are confirmed.

Incredibly, 12 managers chose to use their triple captain chip on Wood.

FPL confirmed the number on their official Twitter account, posting: "An incredible 12 #FPL managers triple-captained Chris Wood. Make yourselves known."

It means they will receive a minimum of 42 points from this striker this week, although they are likely to receive more once the bonuses are decided.

Speaking after the match, former Newcastle striker Wood was quick to praise his teammates for the result rather than taking all the glory following his hat-trick.

"It is nice coming back to Newcastle, I really enjoyed my time here, it is a great bunch of lads and staff," he told the BBC.

"We needed three points and it was fantastic for the side to get it. This is a tough place to come, the boys did extremely well."

Victory for Forest moves them up to 17th in the Premier League table, while Newcastle remain seventh.
