Millwall fans turn on player accused of ‘the worst miss of all time’ after it cost them a spot in the play-offs

Millwall narrowly missed out on a chance to reach the Premier League.

Millwall fans have lost their heads with one player after his crazy miss cost them a spot in the play-offs.

A highly-dramatic final day of the Championship season saw Leeds United claim the title with a injury-time winner, with Burnley finish in second on 100 points.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United, Sunderland, Coventry and Bristol City booked spots at Wembley for the play-offs, with the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Millwall and West Bromwich Albion narrowly missing out.

Millwall came close to securing a spot in the play-offs earlier in their match but one player failed to capitalise on a massive chance, and fans are not happy with him.

Heading into the final day of the season, Millwall needed to end Burnley's 32 game unbeaten run in the Championship while Coventry and Bristol City both lost.

An early goal from Mihailo Ivanovic got fans hopes up, but a quick reply from Burnley star Josh Brownhill quickly restored the two sides to an even playing field.

But Millwall were once again given a massive chance to go up in the match and take a spot in the play-offs as Josh Coburn had a shot at open goal, only for him to stick it wide.

Reacting to the moment, one fan wrote: "Josh Coburn with perhaps the worst miss of all time."

Another added: "Extremely frustrating ending to the season for Millwall. That Josh Coburn miss a huge what if moment."

While a West Ham fan joked: "Oi Josh Coburn has single handedly ruined Millwall’s chance of the playoffs."

Popular X account The xG Philosophy later revealed that Coburn's chance had an astonishing xG of 0.84, adding further insult to injury for Millwall fans.

Although it is impossible to say if Coburn scoring would have ultimately changed the outcome of the match, which ended as a 3-1 win for Burnley, it certainly would have provided them with a massive chance of reaching the play-offs.

Ultimately, Millwall finished this season eighth in the Championship on 66 points, two points away from sixth-placed Bristol City who dramatically clinched the final play-off spot with a 2-2 draw with Preston North End.
