Wayne Rooney's son has 'retired' from football before his career even began as he is set on playing a different sport.

Manchester United and England legend Rooney has four sons with wife Coleen, three of which play football. His eldest son Kai is making waves in the academy set up at United, while his brother Klay also plays for the club Rooney represented on 559 occasions.

Rooney's youngest son Cass is also following in his footsteps by turning out for his boyhood club Everton. However, according to Coleen, Kit, their third child, has had enough of playing football and instead has aspirations to become a darts player.

Kit had a darts-themed party for his ninth birthday and has been inspired by 18-year-old darts sensation and Rooney's former Pro Clubs teammate Luke Littler, who became the youngest darts world champion at Alexandra Palace earlier this year.

"The third one has steak for breakfast, this is the darts one, he wants to become a darts player at the minute," Coleen told The Sun.

"Sometimes he'll have a fried egg with it, but mostly it's just a steak - he'll just have that.

"Kai, he's 15, and Klay, who's going to be 12 in May, they're both at the academy at Manchester United, they've been there for quite a few years now.

"The youngest, he goes in at Everton, he's just turned seven, but he absolutely loves it, and the third one, he's retired. He's retired a few times."

Kit and two of his brothers met Littler at the world championships and got his replica shirt signed. He regularly chucks arrows at the dartboard in their family home and is hoping to emulate his idol 'The Nuke', a massive United fan.

Rooney was told to stop watching his son play

Although he supporters his career prospects, Rooney no longer watches his eldest child Kai after he told him to stop coming to his games.

The constant attention from the public for the 39-year-old meant he struggled to watch the game

“Kai told Wayne to stop coming to football games, when he played grassroots [football] tournaments and stuff because he used to get swarmed and he couldn’t even watch the game," Coleen explained on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

"How do you say to all of these kids, ‘Go away, I’m watching my son?’ Adults, it’s different, you could speak to them. So he [Kai] just said, ‘Oh, Dad, there’s no point you coming because you don’t even watch me play anyway,’ which is sad but it can’t be helped."
