Tyler Fredricson to start for Man United as shock team news leaks ahead of clash with Wolves

20-year-old set for Premier League debut at Old Trafford

Tyler Fredricson is set to make his Manchester United debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon as Ruben Amorim shuffles his pack.

Man Utd kept their Europa League hopes alive on Thursday with a stunning comeback victory over Lyon in a manic quarter-final tie.

Harry Maguire's header sent the Red Devils through to a semi-final against Athletic Bilbao and Amorim has been open about the fact that a European trophy and subsequent qualification for next season's Champions League is now his priority for the last month of the season.

He's set to make good on his word with his team selection for this afternoon's fixture against Wolves at Old Trafford.

Leaked team news suggests that 20-year-old Fredricson will start as United shift their focus wholesale to succeeding in Europe.

Fredricson is a Manchester-born central defender and a Man Utd academy graduate.

He was part of the squad that won the FA Youth Cup in 2022 and has represented England at Under-17 and Under-18 levels.

The young defender rejoined the first team ranks in January after injury curtailed a short spell in the senior squad under Amorim's predecessor, Erik ten Hag.

Fredricson has previously been named on the bench but is yet to make an appearance. A start against Wolves today is a clear indication of his manager's plans with two games against Athletic Bilbao to come.

Ten Hag made Fredricson his first signing at Man Utd as the club agreed his first professional contract at the age of 17.

Three years on and after weathering some injury absences in the meantime, he'll make his debut in the number 55 shirt against Wolves in one of the Premier League's three early kick-offs this afternoon.

United's focus on the Europa League is understandable in the circumstances.

The Red Devils continue to fall well short of expectations in the Premier League and currently sit in 14th place with six matches left in a dreadful domestic season.

They're 19 points outside the top five and will need to lift the Europa League trophy to salvage their campaign with a Champions League spot.

Rivals Liverpool, on the cusp of a second title of the Premier League era, start the day with exactly twice as many points as Amorim's team.
