Man Utd make decision on Ruud van Nistelrooy ahead of Chelsea game as Ruben Amorim talks drag on

Manchester United have made a decision on Ruud van Nistelrooy ahead of the club's Premier League fixture against Chelsea.

Manchester United have made a decision on Ruud van Nistelrooy ahead of the club's game against Chelsea as talks over Ruben Amorim drag on.

Amorim is set to replace Erik ten Hag at Man United following his dismissal.

He took charge of Sporting CP's cup tie against Nacional on Tuesday and received a warm reception from the home faithful.

In the interim, Van Nistelrooy will lead Man United against Leicester City in their Carabao Cup clash tonight.

And it appears he'll also take charge of the team against Chelsea when they meet in the Premier League on Sunday.

That's because Van Nistelrooy is scheduled to attend Man United's pre-match press conference on Thursday ahead of the Chelsea game.

The legendary forward returned to Man United in a coaching capacity, having enjoyed a prolific spell as a player.

He scored 150 goals across all competitions, winning the league title in the 2002/03 season.

The 48-year-old formed Ten Hag's new-look backroom staff ahead of the new season, with Rene Hake also being appointed.

Reports in Portugal claim Amorim will manage Sporting until the next international break, meaning Van Nistelrooy could oversee four Man United matches.

As mentioned, they face Leicester tonight before hosting Chelsea in the league.

Man United then entertain PAOK in the Europa League on November 7 before running it back with Leicester in a league encounter.

Speaking in his pre-match programme notes, Van Nistelrooy said: "When I returned in the summer as Erik’s assistant, it was because I believe that Manchester United can climb back to the levels that I knew here as a player. I still have that belief, but it will take time and a lot of hard work."

He added: "We’ve seen the squad’s potential at times this season, but clearly not often enough. Now is the time for everyone at the club to work together, give everything and turn this season around while we have time."
