Manchester United's squad was left shocked by one key Ruben Amorim transfer decision this summer which could have a major impact on their season.
United were one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, with a number of expensive signings made and several senior players leaving.
Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko were signed for more than £200m to bolster Amorim's attack, with Diego Leon, Enzo Kana-Biyik and most recently goalkeeper Senne Lammens also brought in as reinforcements.
Their arrivals coincided with a number of high-profile outgoings, with Alejandro Garnacho and Antony joining Chelsea and Real Betis respectively on permanent deals, and Marcus Rashford (Barcelona), Jadon Sancho (Aston Villa) and Rasmus Hojlund (Napoli) leaving on loan deals.

The majority of those players had already been exiled by Amorim to the so-called 'bomb squad' after being left out of their pre-season tour of the United States. As a result, their departures from the club were widely expected this summer.

However, it has now been revealed that the squad was left "shocked" by the decision to allow Hojlund to depart for Serie A.
Hojlund, who only joined United in a £72m move from Atalanta in 2023, struggled to live up to his price tag at Old Trafford – managing just 26 goals in 95 games for the Red Devils.

But his teammate with United and Denmark, Patrick Dorgu, admits the squad did not expect him to leave – unlike his compatriot Christian Eriksen, who was released at the end of his contract.
Dorgu told Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet: "That's how it is in football. You never know when it's your turn to move on.
"We knew that it would happen to Christian [Eriksen], but it was perhaps a bigger shock that Rasmus had to move on. I talked to him a lot during the process and could sense which way it was going."
"Hopefully, we will now see each other every time on the national team," he added.

"I have been very happy to be teammates with Christian and Rasmus. It was a big plus for me that they were at the club when I joined. That way it was easier to become part of the squad [as they are Danish too].

"But it was in no way decisive for my choice of Manchester United. I was thinking much more about the coach's plans and ideas with me when I had to make the decision."
Napoli have agreed to pay a loan fee of around £5.1m (€6m) for Hojlund with a mandatory purchase clause worth £38m (€44m), which will become active if they qualify for the Champions League in the 2025/26 season.

The Italian club are hoping to replicate the success of the signing of Scott McTominay, who has flourished since joining Napoli from United.
Scotland international McTominay scored 14 goals in 38 games last season, playing a key role in Napoli's title-winning campaign.
Hojlund could make his debut for the club when they return to action after the international break against Fiorentina next Saturday.
