The first Manchester United player has officially spoken out about Ruben Amorim replacing Erik ten Hag as manager.

In an official statement released on Monday afternoon, United announced that former manager Ten Hag had been sacked after over two years in charge of the club.

Current Sporting CP manager Amorim is the heavy favourite to take over in the United dugout, with reports suggesting that he will be appointed in the coming days.

And now, the first United player to speak out about the rumours has confirmed how the dressing room is feeling about Amorim's imminent arrival and the sacking of Ten Hag.

Following United's 5-2 victory over Leicester City on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup, Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot spoke about the talents of Amorim.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Dalot said: "I mean obviously he's a good manager. We don't know if he's coming or not, we see the rumours like everybody. We will just focus on what we have here and doing our job.

"Whatever the future brings, we'll be ready."

The 25-year-old also took time to praise his former manager and thank him for helping him establish himself as a regular starter for United.

"We felt it. The day after was a really sad day for us, for everybody. He was a man who breaths football 100%, this is what he loves the most," Dalot added.

"But it's part of football, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

"We just wish him all the best add thank him for everything he did for us. Personally, he helped me a lot to break through this club.

"He gave me all the confidence I needed to show that I deserve to play for this club and overall we won two trophies together so we keep good memories."

Amorim is expected to be announced as the new United manager as early as Friday night, following Sporting's league game against Estrela da Amadora.

Reports had initially suggested that Amorim would be appointed on Thursday night, but the Portuguese manager confirmed in a press conference that he would not speak about the United job until after Friday's match.

"I know they [journalists] made a trip to come here to talk about this, and it's natural, but we'll leave that for the end of the game," said Amorim.

"I promise I'll talk at the end of the game and everything will be clearer. By talking now, it's just another destabilisation for the squad. Now the focus is on the game."
