Rio Ferdinand has named the one player that Manchester United must sign on deadline day if they hope to turn their season around.

With just seven hours left of the January transfer window, United remain active in the market as they hope to strengthen their attacking options before the window closes.

So far this month, United have made just one signing, agreeing a deal for Denmark international defender Patrick Dorgu, but they have been linked with several forwards including Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku.

And now, former United defender and club legend Ferdinand has named exactly who the club should pursue in the final hours of deadline day if they want to improve their final league standing.

After allowing both Marcus Rashford and Antony to leave on loan this month, Ferdinand is convinced that United need to bring another forward to the club today to ensure they aren't short of options up front.

And with both young strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee currently struggling to find form at the club, the United legend has recommended they explore a deal for highly-rated Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

Replying to to a United fan who had said that United needed a striker during live stream hosted by Ferdinand, the former centre-back said: "I 100 per cent agree with you. I completely agree.

"A natural No.9. Victor Osimhen, I would have gone with Osimhen on loan. Get him on loan, man. If it's possible, I would have got him."

Earlier in the window Ferdinand also argued that United should be looking at a deal for the Napoli forward, saying last week, via Manchester Evening News: "I'd be going for Osimhen now. If we could do it from a financial standpoint.

"Get him on loan, I'd go and get Osimhen now. [He] guarantees you somebody who can get on the end of things, scores goals, he's experienced, done it at the top level."

However, a deal for Osimhen appears to be impossible as the 26-year-old is currently on loan at Galatasaray and is expected to stay with the Turkish club until the end of the season.
