Rio Ferdinand has named five wingers that Manchester United could sign to help Rasmus Hojlund thrive at Old Trafford.

Hojlund, 20, was signed from Italian side Atalanta this summer for a fee in the region of £64million, but is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League across his 12 appearances in the top flight of English football.

The Danish striker has, however, been thriving on the European stage, and sits level with Manchester City forward Erling Haaland at the top of the charts in the Champions League with five goals.

Despite Hojlund's fine record in Europe, United currently sit rock bottom of Group A with just four points across their five games so far, as they head into a vital final clash against Harry Kane's Bayern Munich team on Tuesday.

Ahead of the fixture, former United defender Ferdinand has compiled a list of five players who could help get Hojlund firing across all competitions, as the Red Devils approach the January transfer window.

"If Man United had [Michael] Olise, Jack Harrison, [Dwight] McNeil at Everton, Jacob Murphy at Newcastle – any one of those four wingers, I reckon he [Hojlund] would have five or six goals by now," Ferdinand said on Vibe With Five.

"Why? Because they cross the ball. All four of those boys, their first thought is, get the ball, head down, either beat the full-back and cross or give me a yard and cross the ball.

"He [Hojlund] needs service. Bowen [is another who would help Hojlund]. These guys want to provide, we’ve got wingers who either want to get a shot off, shoot, beat someone."

If Hojlund is able to find his goalscoring form in the league, it will act as a huge boost to United manage Erik ten Hag ahead of the busy festive period.

United face a tough run of fixtures around Christmas, with games against Liverpool, West Ham United and Aston Villa all on the horizon.
