Rio Ferdinand reveals worrying thing he noticed about Lisandro Martinez injury that could 'kill' Man Utd

Rio Ferdinand is fearing the worst for Lisandro Martinez.

Rio Ferdinand has revealed the worrying thing he noticed about Lisandro Martinez's injury against West Ham United and reckons it could 'kill' Manchester United's season.

Man United's 3-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday was marred by the injury to Martinez, who was forced off in the second-half.

He only returned to action last month and has already made a huge difference to Erik ten Hag's team.

But Martinez could be set for another spell on the sidelines as Ten Hag provided a worrying update following the fixture at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand is concerned about Man United's campaign following the Argentine defender's injury as he hailed the player's on-field relationship with Luke Shaw.

The former Man United defender is also fearing the worst for Martinez, claiming he thinks the 26-year-old may have done damage to his ligaments.

Speaking on his FIVE podcast, he said: "He got a little injury. He done his knee. I see he tweaked it. I think that looks like ligaments, man. He tried to carry on and then said, 'No, no, no I’ve got to go'.

"So, listen, if he’s out, it kills it. You can see with him and Luke Shaw on that side, when they’re together, they look so dominant, they look so confident, they look so composed with the ball."

Ferdinand added: "And those two are really good with the ball in terms of setting up attacks, the ball generally comes from that side. Any of the good stuff we do, Martinez, even you see for the first goal, he clips it in.

"Yes, it goes to [Kurt] Zouma and he heads it down and Casemiro intercepts and we get the goal off that, but it’s because Martinez is playing forward, he’s playing forceful passes.

"So that will be disappointing. We’ve had so many injuries and he’s one of them that’s been out of a while and he’s probably one of our most influential players."

With Martinez in the team, the Red Devils have remained unbeaten, winning three and drawing one of their four matches.

But Ten Hag could be without his key defender for a period of time.
