Man Utd star sends emotional message to Lisandro Martinez as worrying injury update given

Lisandro Martinez was forced to withdraw from Manchester United's victory over West Ham United.

Manchester United star Diogo Dalot has sent an emotional message to Lisandro Martinez after he suffered a crushing injury against West Ham United.

Man United beat West Ham 3-0 on Sunday as goals from Rasmus Hojlund, who explained the meaning behind his celebration, and a Alejandro Garnacho brace ensured victory at Old Trafford.

But the league win came at a price as Martinez was forced to withdraw in the second-half after picking up an injury following a tangle with Vladimír Coufal.

The Argentine defender faces another spell on the sideline having only returned to the fold.

After the game, Dalot sent Martinez a message on social media. He uploaded a picture of the Man United player, accompanied with the caption: "Your pain is our pain. You will be back soon my brother."

Erik ten Hag gave a worrying injury update on Martinez following the result.

Asked how serious the injury is, he replied: "I can't say but it doesn't look good. There is a bad concern.

"We have to wait for a few days for the diagnosis. We do everything to get the right diagnosis and see what is the damage.

"He is very sad, very disappointed. We all feel really with him. First of all, it is a personal disaster when it is really bad, but also for the team it is really bad because he definitely brings us a lot."

The Man United boss added: "It is very bad - very bad for him, very bad for the team. He is a very important player for us.

"We have centre-backs who can fill in but he brings spirit to the team, apart from his football abilities."

Martinez has played 10 games in all competitions this season since returning to full fitness.

He was out of action for nearly three months before returning for his side's 2-2 draw with Tottenham last month.

With the 26-year-old in the team, the Red Devils have remained unbeaten, winning three and drawing one of their four matches.
