Rasmus Hojlund's awkward response when asked if Man Utd release clause exists

Rasmus Hojlund's awkward response when asked if Man Utd release clause exists

It's an awkward response.

Rasmus Hojlund provided an awkward response when asked if he had a release clause in his Manchester United contract.

Hojlund signed for United last summer in a deal worth £72million.

While it took the Dane time to find his feet in the Premier League, not scoring a goal in the competition until December, he is now in relentless form.

Hojlund netted the opener in United's 3-0 win over West Ham on Sunday, the striker's fourth goal in as many games.

And with the United faithful having now taken to the 21-year-old, they may be disheartened to watch his reaction when The United Stand's Mark Goldbridge asked if he had a release clause in his Old Trafford contract.

Goldbridge joked that Hojlund had a release clause in his contract on EA FC24, before enquiring whether the forward has such a clause in his real United deal.

In response Hojlund, who was noticeably uncomfortable, smiled while making an unconvincing shake of the head.

Though the forward's response failed to provide much clarity, it has not been reported that Hojlund has a release clause in the five-year deal he signed last August.

At present it appears Hojlund is at United for the long-term.

"It was our plan [to play youngsters] before the season because we saw the potential but, of course, they need of games and they need experience," said Erik ten Hag, after his side's dominant performance against West Ham.

"They have the right attitude and when you have the attitude to improve every day, I am convinced they can achieve high levels but they need experienced players who have achieved everything to help them and put them in the right positions.

"We have a front line that is a threat for every opponent and they enjoy to play football. The three youngsters celebrating together [was good]."
