Oliver Glasner 'Makes Decision' on Replacing Ruben Amorim at Man Utd

Glasner has been linked with potentially replacing Amorim at Old Trafford.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has reportedly made a final decision over whether he wants to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

Further pressure was placed on Amorim's position after United lost 3-1 to Brentford on Saturday.

The result leaves them in 14th place in the Premier League table and with just seven points from their six matches.

The defeat saw similar defensive failings from Amorim's side, with the Portuguese boss again questioned over his decision to stick with his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

BBC Sport's Simon Stone reports that United are still backing their current manager and will give him until the end of the season.

But further poor results and performances could pressure them to act.

One manager who has been persistently linked with the Old Trafford job is Glasner, who has been in charge of Palace since January 2024.

Under Glasner, the Eagles have won the FA Cup and Community Shield since May and are the only Premier League side still to be unbeaten after six matches.

In fact, Palace haven't lost in any competition since their 5-0 defeat at Newcastle in April - 17 matches ago.

Reports claimed that Glasner threatened to resign from his role if Palace sold captain Marc Guehi to Liverpool on deadline day earlier this month, but he quickly shut down those claims down.

The Austrian's contract expires at the end of this season, and he stated earlier this week (via Kicker): "I'm aware of the rumours [about his future], but that's all they are. I'm staying neutral and completely calm, concentrating on my daily work with the players and staff, and simply trying to enjoy it."

But according to talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs, Glasner would take the United job 'in a heartbeat' if it was offered to him.

"My information is that if Oliver Glasner was offered the Manchester United job, he would take it in a heartbeat," Jacobs said.

"As a consequence, Manchester United will feel there are quality managers, and some with Premier League experience, that will be willing to move. There are options closer to home.

"I don't think Glasner playing a similar system to Ruben Amorim will really put off Manchester United.

"I think at times what Ruben Amorim has done, is he's made the wrong decisions tactically, the wrong selection, the wrong pairings and chemistry. So is there a different way, even within this system, of getting Kobbie Mainoo more game time? Or not Bruno Fernandes in such a deep position?

"Ruben Amorim's challenge at Manchester United has not just been about getting the best out of the system, it's also been about getting all of his best players comfortable and playing together.

Glasner, as he's proven at Palace, [Andoni] Iraola, as he's shown at Bournemouth, and [Marco] Silva, as he's shown at Fulham, they've all got a proven track record in the Premier League with lower budgets and bigger constraints, of getting that squad chemistry which is lacking at the moment at Manchester United."
