Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has 'personally intervened' to sign Marcus Rashford from his old club this January according to reports.

Rashford looks set to leave Old Trafford this January after being cast aside by new United boss Ruben Amorim.

The 27-year-old has not featured since being dropped from the squad for the Manchester derby in December.

Numerous clubs have been linked to the attacker, with Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan all reportedly interested in Rashford's signature.

However, according to Turkish journalist Gökmen Özcan, Solskjaer has made Rashford a key target for his new side Besiktas.

Özcan wrote on X: "Beşiktaş Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's crazy transfer target: Marcus Rashford.

"The Norwegian coach is personally involved in the signing of the 27-year-old left winger, with whom he worked together at Manchester United."

Solskjaer, 51, has signed an 18-month deal with the Turkish side, taking up his first managerial job since departing United in 2021.

However, Solskjaer was quizzed on the possibility of signing Rashford in his first press conference on Tuesday, and played down a potential reunion.

“I’ve come from Manchester United, so there will be transfer news like this,” explained Solskjaer. “Casemiro and Rashford are very good players, but I haven’t had any contact with them.

“I enjoyed my time at Manchester United. That chapter is closed. I’m looking forward to working at Besiktas now. The Bilbao game will be tough, but we are ready.”

The former United man also spoke about the England international last year, in an interview with FourFourTwo.

"Obviously I managed Marcus for three years and I know him,” he said. “It's not my job to go out and discuss his performances, but last season [2023/23] he was fantastic and it's about consistency in football. Marcus and many others haven't hit the heights this season. I'm sure he had a wake-up call recently and hopefully, that will spur him on."
