Man United fans are all saying the same thing about Matej Kovar after first-half showing against Lyon

Manchester United fans slammed David de Gea as they praised Matej Kovar.

Manchester United fans are all saying the same thing about Matej Kovar as they took aim at David de Gea following the first-half against Lyon.

Man United took on Lyon at Murrayfield Stadium in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday after beating Leeds United 2-0 in Oslo last week.

Erik ten Hag started Kovar between the sticks after the goalkeeper made a second-half appearance against Leeds.

And the Czech stopper impressed Man United fans online as they slammed their former player De Gea.

People liked the 23-year-old's distribution from the back and claimed the Red Devils would've won trophies had he started over the Spaniard.

One Twitter user wrote: "Kovar is miles better than De Gea, I’m laughing."

A second tweeted: "Deeply hilarious that the coaches were able to develop someone as composed on the ball as Kovar but still watched De Gea week in and week out and thought he was fine."

A third added: "Only pre-season and don't wanna hate on De Gea but we look much better playing out from the back with Kovar."

A fourth said: "Kovar has given more accurate passes in this pre-season than De Gea did in his 12 years. Just saying."

A fifth commented: "Kovar is way way ahead of De Gea with his foot."

Another wrote: "We would’ve won 3 trophies w/ Kovar instead of De Gea."

De Gea left Old Trafford after 12 years at the club earlier this month following the expiration of his contract.

Judging by the reaction online, Man United supporters are keen on Kovar, but Ten Hag is on the verge of snapping up Andre Onana.

Man United have agreed a £47.2 million fee with Inter Milan for the 27-year-old goalkeeper, who has previously worked with Ten Hag at Ajax.
