Mason Greenwood told what he needs to do at Getafe by manager Jose Bordalas

Jose Bordalas has revealed what Mason Greenwood needs to do at Getafe following his move from Manchester United.

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan from Man United last summer and has played 15 games in all competitions this season.

He has five goals to his name, having returned to action following a year without playing or training with a club.

The 22-year-old had been linked with a host of teams before penning a deal with the La Liga side.

Teams in Italy and Germany were thought to be keen on acquiring his services for the 2023/24 campaign.

Getafe boss Bordalas has confirmed the interest from Serie A sides as he reflected on the 'gamble' to snap up Greenwood.

He also called him a 'good boy' but says he needs to learn a little more Spanish.

Speaking to Marca via Football Espana, he said: “Well, with a lot of patience, with a lot of calm, aware that he had been out of action for a long time without playing and practically without training. But we were confident because of the talent, because of the ability he had shown.

"Being able to go for a player of this level at Getafe is complicated, almost impossible. And well, given the situation, we took a gamble on him. We are happy and content because we have a great player, he is a good boy, he has fitted in really well and he just needs to learn a little more Spanish.”

The 59-year-old added: “A friend called me to tell me about this possibility and at first, we thought it wasn’t real, but he confirmed that it was. There were conversations, he had other possibilities to play like in Serie A, but there were many clubs that did not dare because of what had happened and so on. In the end, with a lot of effort and difficulty, we all managed to get him to come to Getafe.”

Greenwood starred in his last outing for Getafe and could keep his place in the starting XI when they resume their La Liga campaign against Rayo Vallecano on January 2.
