Mark Goldbridge claims current Man Utd player is 'one of the most calamitous transfers in our history'

Mark Goldbridge has branded a current Manchester United player "one of the most calamitous transfers" in the club's long history following their defeat to Crystal Palace.

United's season hit a new low on Monday night as they were thrashed 4-0 by Palace at Selhurst Park.

Two goals from reported United transfer target Michael Olise inspired Palace to a comfortable victory, while Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell also scored for Oliver Glasner's Eagles.

United fan and YouTuber Goldbridge launched a passionate rant during the match after the Red Devils had a goal ruled out for a foul on Dean Henderson.

"That's no f****** foul, no way that's a foul," he said, during an lengthy X-rated rant on his live stream.

And after the defeat, Goldbridge was quick to single out one player for blame – United goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Onana allowed Olise's second goal to beat him in the centre of the goal, while he was also arguably at fault for Mateta's strike – allowing it past him at his near post.

His feet were also planted for a late chance for Palace striker Odsonne Edouard, who hit the post.

Goldbridge voiced his anger at Onana following the full-time whistle.

"[David] De Gea for Onana will go down as one of the most calamitous transfers in our history. All those going in on De Gea had no idea what we had," he tweeted.

United allowed De Gea to leave the club last summer on a free transfer, signing Onana in a £47.2m deal from Inter Milan as his replacement.

De Gea had won the Premier League's Golden Glove in the 2022/23 Premier League season before his release by United.

He is yet to find a new club but has hinted at a return to football in recent weeks and has been linked with moves to the Saudi Premier League, the MLS and clubs in his native Spain.

Onana, meanwhile, has spoken of his struggles in his debut season in English football.

Speaking ahead of the Palace game, he said: "Yeah, it was really hard [to start off with] but it's the first time I faced such a situation. Now I know the league, I know the people, I know the country, I know Manchester. When I look back now, I'm just smiling because it was a big lesson for me.

"But in the beginning I was like, ‘Wow, did I make the right choice?’ But I'm definitely 100 per cent sure I made the right choice because Manchester United is the bigger club in this country, it's one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"I don't think my team-mates are happy with the situation we are facing because I know them, they are all winners, and everyone wants to win. When we started the season, we were speaking in the dressing room about fighting for every single title.

"But things happen in life and we have to deal with [this] situation. But now we have a beautiful final to play, we have another few games to play. We'll go for it and end with the dignity.”
