A Borussia Dortmund star has revealed his true feelings about Marcus Rashford amid rumours that the Manchester United star could leave the club this month.

After spending his entire career with United, Rashford confirmed that he was ready to leave the club during a shock interview with Henry Winter last month.

Of all the clubs rumoured to be interested in Rashford, it would appear that Serie A giants AC Milan are the favourites to secure his signature, but a recent report suggested Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund are also interested.

And amid the rumours of Rashford's departure, comments from a Dortmund star about the winger have resurfaced online.

Austrian international Marcel Sabitzer joined United on short-term loan in January 2023 as manager Erik ten Hag looked to add depth to his midfield following a long-term injury for Christian Eriksen.

Upon joining, Sabitzer was quick to praise his teammates, picking out Rashford in particular due to the impressive form that the forward was enjoying ahead of his arrival.

Speaking about the Englishman in February 2023, the midfielder said: “He is a great guy, a great player and he’s helping us a lot at the moment.”

At the time, Rashford has scored three goals in his last three games, finishing the 2022/23 season with 30 goals and nine assists in 56 appearances for United across all competitions.

Sabitzer went on to make 18 appearances for United but, despite Ten Hag reportedly hoping to sign him on a permanent deal, Sabitzer left the club at the end of the season, returning to parent club Bayern Munich.

Shortly after leaving Old Trafford, the midfielder signed a four-year deal with Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, in a deal worth a reported fee of around €20 million [£17.3m].

Since leaving United, Sabitzer has kept relatively quiet about his spell in the Premier League, but spoke about in briefly in an interview with The Athletic in November 2023.

After claiming that "there was a feeling that United were coming back to where they belong" during his time at the club, Sabitzer added: “I went straight into the deep end after that tricky time at Bayern.

“I felt very good on the pitch and regained my confidence, I realised that I still had it and, despite not having that rhythm that comes with regular starts, I showed that I could still do it at that level.

"It helped me a lot. Physically, mentally and football-wise, I’m very happy with how the last 10, 11 months have gone.”
