Marcus Rashford scores for Man Utd inside five minutes vs Wolves before low-key celebration

Marcus Rashford scores for Man Utd inside five minutes vs Wolves before low-key celebration

Rashford has scored.

Marcus Rashford has scored Manchester United's opening goal in their Premier League clash against Wolves after being restored to the team by manager Erik ten Hag.

Rashford scored a right-footed shot from 20 yards inside five minutes to open the scoring at Molineux.

He missed United's FA Cup fourth round tie against Newport last weekend through illness, which Ten Hag revealed was an 'internal matter'. United subsequently confirmed that the matter had been resolved.

In celebration, Rashford didn't perform his iconic head-pointing celebration, instead simply sliding to his knees in front of the away end before being embraced by his team-mates.

The emotion may well have just been pure relief for the 25-year-old, after what has been a challenging week.

Rashford visited the Northern Irish capital of Belfast on Wednesday during a scheduled day off for the first team squad, and was pictured on a night out on that evening.

The Athletic later claimed that the United forward had gone out again in the city on the Thursday evening, before not taking part in Friday morning's training session due to illness.

The same outlet also reported that Rashford and his agent attended a meeting with Ten Hag and United football director John Murtough on Monday morning.

United subsequently released a club statement, confirming that Rashford was back in training and in contention to take on Wolves.

They said: "Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed."
