Man Utd's true valuation of Geovany Quenda emerges hours after Spurs defeat as club attempt to seal transfer

The Sporting CP star has been linked with a potential transfer to the Premier League side, having previously worked with Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United’s ‘true valuation’ of Sporting CP youngster Geovany Quenda has finally been revealed.

Quenda, 17, was handed his debut by then-Sporting boss Ruben Amorim back in August 2024 and became the youngest-ever player to score for the club after he netted against Porto during a 4-3 loss in the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira.

Since then, he has become an integral part of the Portuguese champions’ side and has already proved that he is capable of performing on the right-flank of Amorim’s favoured 3-4-2-1 formation – something Man United’s current wing-backs cannot seem to get to grips with.

The youngster has played 38 times this term, having registered two goals and seven assists, including one in the Champions League.

Back in January, Portugal-based outlet A BOLA claimed that United had ‘agreed a deal’ to sign the teenager. However, no such deal has been confirmed by either club at this time.

On Monday. Journalist and transfer expert Ben Jacobs revealed exactly what he knows about the situation and even claimed that the clubs ‘disagree’ on the player’s valuation.

“Yeah, I think the player is certainly keen on a move to Manchester United, and talks are progressing to see whether something can be pre-agreed ahead of the summer,” Jacobs told GiveMeSport.

“Manchester United's valuation is below that of Sporting’s. They feel that the player is worth in the region of 40 million euros, whereas Sporting’s perspective is the number that he should be sold for is closer to the 60 million mark.

“So that gulf in valuation is something that all parties are going to have to work on.”

Quenda, whose current contract is set to run until the summer of 2027, is not short of admirers in his native Portugal, with national team head coach Roberto Martinez having already included him in a senior squad back in September – although he did not make his debut.

“[He is] more than a versatile player; he brings balance and technical ability, not just the position,” Martinez told Mais Futebol in November.

“He is a player with magic and who can make the difference in the final third.

“He is a player with a spectacular future, and his experience of being in the national team, whether he plays on the pitch or not, is important.”

While Manchester City star and Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva even joked that Quenda could "probably steal" his place in the national team.

“He will probably steal my place [in the Portugal side]," said Silva. "At 17, I wasn't even playing for Benfica's youth team."

If United were to sign the 17-year-old it would align with their recent transfer strategy of recruiting prospects rather than 'proven' players.

In January, the Red Devils welcomed 20-year-old left-back Patrick Dorgu and 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven to the club.
