Alphonso Davies 'rejects' Man Utd transfer for two damning reasons which sum up the current state of the club

The Bayern Munich man has been linked with a move to the Premier League club.

Bayern Munich left-back/winger Alphonso Davies has ‘rejected’ a move to Manchester United, according to the reports.

The player’s current Bayern contract is set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, meaning he can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club when the transfer window opens on January 1, 2025.

Davies, 24, has been linked with a move to several elite European clubs, with Barcelona and Real Madrid reportedly interested in signing the Canadian.

Manchester United have also been linked with the player, but the latest update from The Athletic explains how “sources close to the player say the upheaval at the club and their current lack of involvement in the Champions League makes them less attractive from his end”.

Of course, budgets at United are thought to be tight, and given the fact the player would arrive on a free transfer, his wages would be expected to be high.

The ‘sources’ also explained that the player is not “a priority” at this time.

However, the left side of the defence is a position that United are short in.

Luke Shaw sustained an injury setback ahead of last week’s 2-0 loss against Arsenal, meaning usual right-back Diogo Dalot started as a left wingback at the Emirates and during the 3-2 home defeat against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Athletic’s report suggests Davies and his agent have been in close contact regarding his future.

“Multiple sources” with “knowledge” of the situation feel Bayern are “optimistic” about the player’s future as he is said to be a popular figure in the dressing room.

Ahead of the current campaign, Davies’ representatives and Bayern sporting director Max Eberl reached “an agreement in principle” to extend his stay in Bavaria.

However, Davies’ performances in the second half of last season prompted the club to hold any further discussions.

This season, the former Vancouver Whitecaps man has made 12 Bundesliga appearances this term but has registered just one assist and zero goals.

Premier League outfits Chelsea and Arsenal are also thought to be monitoring the situation.

Liverpool have also “expressed interest” in signing the player, but “senior sources” have “denied any interest” in a potential deal.
