Man Utd 'open talks' with Rangers goalkeeper amid Erik ten Hag injury crisis

Man Utd 'open talks' with Rangers goalkeeper amid Erik ten Hag injury crisis

The Red Devils boss has identified a new target.

Manchester United are plotting a move for Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie, according to reports in Scotland.

Erik ten Hag may be forced into the transfer market following an injury to third-choice shot-stopper Tom Heaton ahead of the Red Devils' opening Premier League game against Wolves on Monday.

The only other option available to the United boss is Dean Henderson, who has also been plagued by a thigh injury.

Meanwhile, forgotten goalkeeper Matej Kovar has been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen, meaning Ten Hag may need to delve into the youth team to find a back-up for Andre Onana.

Needless to say, David de Gea has left the club after 12 years as United's first-choice keeper and they have already sold Nathan Bishop to Sunderland.

In turn, the Red Devils have opened talks with McCrorie's camp, according to The Herald.

The report adds that McCrorie has informed Rangers boss Michael Beale of his desire to leave following the arrival of former United goalkeeper Jack Butland, who has assumed the No. 1 shirt at Ibrox.

McCrorie has impressed when called upon for the Gers and signed a new long-term contract last October with the aim of breaking into the starting 11.

However, he has reportedly grown frustrated with his lack of playing time and may find a move to United difficult to turn down.

The publication claims that Ten Hag has previously expressed an interest in the 25-year-old, and that could materialise into a bid after United's worrying injury crisis, with Rangers allegedly after just £1 million.

In addition, the Glaswegian outfit have promised not to stand in McCrorie's way should he choose to leave his boyhood club, amid interest from Hull City and Polish champions Raków Częstochowa.
