Roy Keane reckons Erik ten Hag will be sacked as Manchester United manager 'in the next few months' for what he said following his side's win against Wigan Athletic.

Man United avoided an FA Cup upset as they ran out 2-0 winners at the DW Stadium on Monday.

Diogo Dalot opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, with Bruno Fernandes doubling his team's lead from the spot after winning a controversial penalty.

The Red Devils will travel to either Newport County or Eastleigh in the next round of the competition.

Speaking about the result, Ten Hag said: "The FA Cup is all about winning, it is knockout. You want to finish the job. That is what I said in the dressing room 'job done'."

The Dutchman also spoke about the 'project' at Man United, which angered Keane who was on punditry duty for ITV.

Asked if he could see Ten Hag's ideas implemented, the Irishman bluntly replied: "No, not really. I think that’s the problem with United, you know what you’re going to get when you turn up."

Keane added: "The manager there mentions the 'project' – it probably means he’ll be gone in the next few months. This dreaded word 'project'. No, I didn’t see it tonight with United and I’ve not seen it for the last few months.

"But, again, they’re in the next round and it’s an easy draw the next time round, but you need a better level of performance. And the chances they made tonight, you always expect more."

Man United, who lost their last league game at the hands of Nottingham Forest, resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday when they host fifth-placed Tottenham.

Ten Hag's charges occupy eighth place in the table and have 31 points on the board ahead of their crunch showdown at Old Trafford.
