Ruben Amorim told where Man Utd would finish in the Scottish Premiership following their dramatic win over Rangers

"Based on what I'm looking at and the bits I've seen from Celtic, I don't think United would beat them."

Ruben Amorim has been told where Manchester United would finish in the Scottish Premiership after they recorded a narrow 2-1 win over Rangers.

United are on the verge of securing their place in the Europa League last 16 thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Bruno Fernandes but ultimately, it was another difficult tricky for the Reds.

In the dying embers, it looked like Rangers would secure a crucial point after substitute Cyriel Dessers beat goalkeeper Altay Bayindir with a wonderful finish into the bottom left corner.

But after defender Lisandro Martinez fired in a perfectly-weighted ball into the penalty area, Fernandes fired home to hand United an important three points in their Europa League campaign.

After the full-time whistle, talkSPORT pundit and former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy gave his take on Thursday's result at Old Trafford.

Speaking on The Sports Bar, Cundy said Amorim's United would finish behind current Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic if they competed in Scotland's top tier.

Celtic are running away with the league this season and currently sit 13 points ahead of Rangers, who are currently second with 14 wins out of a possible 23.

"Terrible, terrible football. What have I just watched?" Cundy said after the full-time whistle. "Two teams that just are just trying to find and fight their way to get something going.

"Man United, honestly… what was Butland and the own goal about? If you ask Jack Butland to punch the ball his own goal when he's trying to punch it one way, yet somehow get some backspin on it you know, he wouldn't be able to do it. A freak goal.

"It's all about the result. Yeah, knockout cup football is all about the result. But Man United fans are looking for a bit more, you're looking for like seeds or a little bit of, you know, green shoots of recovery.

"'Is there something there we can build? Is there something happening?' Sad news for them is no, there's no green shoots of recovery, that's all about the result."

Cundy continued: "Based on what I'm looking at and the bits I've seen from Celtic, I don't think United would beat them.

"So Rangers are some distance behind Celtic, right? There's a chasm between them, and there's another chasm between them and [Dundee United] who are third [in the Scottish Premiership].

"Man United, this is a side... There's many reasons as to why United are where they are and how they are.

"But the goal that they conceded, what is Harry Maguire doing? Now, this is his position, this is where it suits him. It's a long way, he sees it coming… it’s terrible defending. It's a lovely finish with his laces right, but what is Maguire doing?"

The 55-year-old then said he "wouldn't put a pound" on United winning the Scottish title. "Not one single pound," he added. "Celtic will give them a game."
