Man Utd player releases statement after not travelling with Ruben Amorim's squad for US pre-season tour

United travel to the United States to take on West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton.

A first-team player who did not travel with Manchester United's 32-man squad for their pre-season trip to the United States on Tuesday has released a statement to address his absence.

United will take on West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton in the Premier League Summer Series tournament, which takes place from July 26 to August 3 in three venues – the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Chicago's Soldier Field and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Ruben Amorim has named summer signings Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo in his squad, while Joshua Zirkzee is back in the side after recovering from an injury problem.

A host of academy products, including Jack Fletcher, Sekou Kone, Toby Collyer, Reece Munro and Tyler Fredricson, have also been included alongside highly-rated forward Chido Obi, who featured against Premier League new boys Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

Harry Maguire, meanwhile, will miss the first day of the club's pre-season trip for personal reasons, although he recently confirmed that he will meet up with Amorim's squad on Wednesday, June 23,

A few hours after the news emerged and Maguire released the following statement to address his absence. He wrote on Instagram: "All is fine now. I will be travelling tomorrow to meet up with the squad, thanks for your concern."

Harry Amass, who missed out against Leeds, has been left out of Amorim's squad as talks over a loan move continue, while Lisandro Martinez has travelled despite not being fit to play or train.

As expected, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho have all been left behind as they seek moves.

After the trip to America, United will take on Serie A side Fiorentina at Old Trafford before kicking off the new Premier League campaign against Arsenal on August 17.

Bryan Mbeumo explains why he joined Manchester United

Following a long-running saga, Mbeumo was finally confirmed as a United player on Monday evening, just in time for the club's pre-season tour of the United States.

The 25-year-old, who has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford with the option of a further year, joined for an initial fee of £65 million, which could rise to £71 million if add-ons are achieved.

Speaking about his decision to join United, he told the club's website: “From the start, I wanted to join this massive club. Now I’m here, I’m just really happy. For me, it’s the biggest club in the world. The fans are crazy, the stadium is amazing, and every player wants to play here.”

He added: “My first top was Manchester United’s with Ronaldo [on the back]. It’s just such a big club and I’m really happy to be here.”
