Manchester United supporters have called for Ruben Amorim to drop two players completely after a bruising 4-1 defeat to Newcastle.

United, without the much-maligned Andre Onana after he was left out of the squad, went in level at half-time after Alejandro Garnacho cancelled out Sandro Tonali's opener.

But a brace from Harvey Barnes and a strike from Bruno Guimaraes in the second half compounded the Red Devils to a record-equalling 14th Premier League defeat of the season.

The miserable performance and result sees United drop back down to 14th in the table and means they are comfortably on course for their worst ever Premier League finish.

They weren't too many players who could come away with any credit, with plenty of United stars not at the races.

But two players were so bad that United fans have already decided they should not play again for the club.

Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof, who are out of contract in the summer, both started at St James' Park - though fans think it ought to be the last time they featured.

One fan on X commented: "Can we stop playing Lindelof and Eriksen, they’re leaving on a free. Play youth instead."

A second added: "You can’t be surprised though can you? You can’t expect to be a physically dominant side with Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof starting for you. Both are out of contract this summer."

A third said: "Can’t expect to win a prem game with Eriksen and Lindelof in the team."

Analysing one of Barnes' strike, another user wrote: "Harvey Barnes easily glides past Lindelof and Eriksen - 2 players who should be nowhere near the #MUFC starting line-up and will be leaving in the summer. No muscle or pace. Just too easy."

A final person stated: "Another performance that’s solely on Amorim’s selections. Newcastle away and he’s starting the likes of Lindelof and Eriksen."

United look to bounce back on Thursday when they host Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final.

The twos sides drew 2-2 in the first fixture and United know it is their only chance of achieving silverware this season, as well as being a route back into the Europa League.
